At Home Tips

This time at home can be a blessing in disguise! While work and our regular outings may not be possible, the fun can still continue indoors. Spending time with our families and finding our passions seems like a great way to boost our spirits. We came up with some tips to help you make the most of this Social Distancing time.

Learn a new skill.

In response to the Covid-19 situation, many educational institutions have launched free online courses. Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn? What about furthering your knowledge on a topic? There’s no better time to sharpen your mind. Keeping your brain active can help the time pass faster and you’ll be more marketable when the quarantine is over. It’s a win, win!

We’ve compiled a list of some companies that are offering thousands of courses online for FREE!

Don’t forget to be mindful of the time spent on devices and the damage that can be done to your eyes. Blue light can be harmful over time, but you can stop that damage in its tracks with Blu Guard technology from Ultimate Eyewear. Read more about it here

Get back to your hobbies.

When last have you picked up your camera, or played the violin or read a book? You could be revisiting the things you once loved. Challenge yourself to return to activities that once brought you happiness and kept you entertained. Finish that book in one day, knit an entire blanket in 3 days, or learn a Tik Tok dance in 5 minutes. Whatever gets your brain working and gives you the zeal that you lack, sounds worth it to us!

Keep your kids occupied.

School’s out and the children are little balls of energy! While the teachers are sending schoolwork to keep their academic mind active, why not get their creative juices flowing? Use this time to bond with your children. Play board games, do arts and crafts, and have fun! Teach them how to cook or plant a garden or learn a new language. Their minds need to be stimulated as much as yours so why not do it together?

We know that it’s easy to give them a tablet or a phone when they’re bored but the blue light emitted from electronic devices can also be harmful to your children’s eyes. Remember to limit screen time where possible.

Physical Activity and Meditation

Preserving your mental and physical health should not be forgotten. Exercising regularly has many benefits for the body but it can also benefit the eyes. Cardio exercises can increase blood flow to the retina and optic nerve. Patients with glaucoma are especially encouraged to keep a regular exercise regimen.

Remember to protect your eyes while working out. Our Polar Plus Polarized sunglasses provide unbeatable protection from the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays. Read more about it here

We understand that the uncertainty of the time as well as daily news updates can be difficult for those that have anxiety and struggle with their mental health.  Practicing meditation can help. Setting aside a few minutes a day to unplug, unwind, and focus on the positives can assist in calming anxiety.

These times won’t last forever so let’s make the best of it. Ensure that you are doing your part to help stop the spread of Covid-19. Practice proper hygiene and social distancing. Take care of your eyes and be kind to yourself. Ultimate Eyewear encourages Trinidad and Tobago to help #flattenthecurve.
